Faculty member presents research to SBL International Meeting in Sweden

In June, Assoc Prof Robert Myles travelled to the University of Uppsala in Sweden to participate in the Society of Biblical Literature’s International Meeting (June 23-27, 2025), funded by a competitive research grant from the University of Divinity. His paper, ‘From Nets to Networks: Social and Material Contexts of Fishing in the Early Jesus Movement’, presented to the Early Christianity section, applied insights from cross-cultural anthropological research on fishing societies to early Christian traditions on fishing and fishermen. Held annually, the SBL International Meeting provides a unique forum for those who wish to engage more directly SBL’s growing international membership and scholarship. The 2026 International Meeting will take place in Adelaide, Australia July 5-9, with many biblical scholars from around the region expected to participate.
