Associate Professor Robert Myles has co-edited along with several colleagues a posthumous collection of essays written by Professor Elaine Wainwright (1948-2024), Robert’s former mentor and doctoral supervisor at the University of Auckland.
A Valiant Woman: Words of Wisdom for the Sake of Transformative Action
Elaine Wainwright; co-edited by Elizabeth Dowling, Anne Elvey, Veronica Lawson, and Robert Myles (ATF Press, 2025)
Professor Wainwright was an influential Australian New Testament scholar whose work significantly advanced feminist and ecological biblical interpretation, particularly through her studies of the Gospel of Matthew, gender and healing in the Greco-Roman world, and contributions to the Earth Bible project.
This new collection brings together 20 of her published and unpublished essays spanning three decades of research. At least one piece appears in English for the first time, while some other articles were previously difficult to access.
The publication follows an earlier festschrift co-edited by Robert, Habitats of the Basileia: Essays in Honour of Elaine M. Wainwright (Sheffield Phoenix Press, 2024), which was presented to Elaine in the months before her death.
