Archbishop’s Certificate

The Archbishop’s Certificate is a program of study for anybody who wants to explore and grow their faith

Here at Wollaston we are excited to be launching our new Archbishop’s Certificate program, beginning in 2026. We hope that everyone will be able to find a module they find interesting, or even better, enrol for the whole certificate.

We are looking forward to sharing our beautiful campus and Chapel, and showing off our new library – so for 2026 all modules (apart from Summer Days) will be free of charge. Theological education is the most exciting journey I have ever embarked on – I am hoping that we will be part of your journey in 2026. Welcome to Wollaston.

Meg Warner, Principal

I warmly commend the new Archbishop’s Certificate program to you, and hope that you will accept the Principal’s invitation to embark on this journey in 2026

The Most Reverend Kay Goldsworthy AO DD

FAQs

WHO IS THE ARCHBISHOP’S CERTIFICATE FOR?
The new Archbishop’s Certificate is for everybody. You don’t need any special academic background or skills – just a desire to know God more deeply and to build a foundation of understanding for your faith.

HOW DO I GET THE ARCHBISHOP’S CERTIFICATE?
Just complete six modules, usually within three to four years. You should choose at least two blue modules (Biblical Studies), two red modules (Theology and Mission) and one yellow module (Practical Theology).

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE ME TO COMPLETE THE ARCHBISHOP’S CERTIFICATE?
Three or more modules will be offered every year, so it would be possible to complete the whole program in two years.

HOW MANY CLASSES ARE THERE IN A MODULE?
Each module may be a little different. Expect four to six sessions of between 90 and 180 minutes. This year Summer Days will be a module for the certificate (although you are very welcome even if you are not enrolling for the certificate).

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
You will be assessed by attendance and participation. You must have attended at least three quarters of the class time. You don’t have to write essays. But if you want to write an essay, and have it marked, just talk to the module leader.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
For this introductory year there will be no cost for most modules. The exception is the Summer Days module, for which there will be a cost to cover catering and guest lecturers.

WHERE DO I GO FOR CLASSES? AND CAN I ATTEND VIRTUALLY?
In 2026 all classes will be held at Wollaston Theological College. In future years classes will be held both north and south of the river. In 2026 it will be possible to attend classes both in person and online, apart from the Saturday session in Module Two, which must be attended in person.

Note that this is not formal university study and you will not receive university accreditation. Those who complete the program will receive a certificate signed by the Archbishop.
